Late Summer in Hudson
My dear colleague Giovanni Di Mola is heading out, away from Hudson, New York to Israel, Berlin and Howard Beach, Queens...don't ask!
After two years of working together he has assisted with my Art career, the Antiques shop and more!
I am hardly the only person in town who cherishes him and will miss him greatly.
Late Summer is late summer.

"BEST IN SHOW"

“Best in Show” 2008: Hudson and Columbia County Art Project
Imagine classical dogs, colorful dogs, cunning or crying or cocky dogs, cranky dogs, corny dogs, conceited, contented and comical dogs. All the newest, all the coolest will be taking up residence in Hudson, for the summer of 2008.
There will be promotions and special events throughout the season. Patrons who sponsor the dogs and artists who decorate them will be promoted in print, on the web, at events and in the streets!!
Fiber glass dogs, approximately 25 inches, either in a sitting or standing position and mounted on a base, will be purchased by a sponsor and then painted and decorated at the whimsy of the artist.
The dogs will be on display in Hudson and other towns in Columbia County from July 4th Weekend through the CCCA’s Hudson ArtsWalk, ending Columbus Day Weekend, 2008.
Following their summer on the street the dogs will be auctioned at the “Best in Show Auction and Gala” to be held during ArtsWalk 2008, Sunday, October 12th.

KEN POLINSKIE:
Opening Reception Saturday, April 26, 6-8 p.m.
Through May 31, 2008
The Nicole Fiacco Gallery announces Griffin’s Cat and Other Stories, a solo exhibition of recent work by Ken Polinskie (American b. 1952). In this, his second solo exhibition with the gallery, Polinskie will present paintings and drawings influenced by fables and narrative. The show will include paintings created from paper pulp as well as ink and gouache drawings on artist made paper.
Polinskie’s work is highly expressive, with dreamlike compositions that are dramatic in their gesture and color. In addition to being quite beautiful and idiosyncratic, viewers will respond to Polinskie’s storytelling, which ranges from darkly comic to deeply moving. Polinskie’s work is disarming, using `lo’ subjects as metaphor, while asking serious questions about the nature of the human condition.
Ken Polinskie has remained wholly committed to the use of paper as a medium for nearly 30 years and is considered a master papermaker. He has made significant contributions to the field through his innovative hand papermaking techniques, including his success in capturing representational imagery in his early paper pulp paintings and progressive techniques in print and edition work using handmade paper.

2008

My current work, I believe, is a confluence of my lifelong involvement with works on paper, the development of imagery and a more methodical approach to underlying ideas.
The imagery is generated from various sources such as life studies, newspaper photos or fables and fairy tales. After satisfactory preliminary drawings are completed the image is transferred to a sheet of paper, generally of my own making. The sheets may be simply colored, embellished with imbedding or double couched during the papermaking process with partial imagery.
The final rendering of the image is in ink, gouache, watercolor or a combination of mediums.
Influences range from Renaissance Master Drawings to comic book line art illustrations.
The subject matter of dogs and other creatures and the stories they tell are an important aspect of my work. My goal is to express humor and sentiment as well as add an element of kitsch. I believe that the deeper level of my work is revealed in the obsessive nature of the lines and marks made. Those notations are an outlet for my inner thoughts, anxieties and other emotional and spiritual states of mind.
